Privacy policy
Screenshot to Text, the Chrome extension. Last updated: November 2026.
What happens to what you capture
Text recognition (OCR) runs on your device, inside the extension. The area of the screen you select, the picture of it and the recognized text are never sent anywhere. The text goes only to your clipboard and to the result card on your screen.
Language files
Eight languages are built into the extension. When you add another language in the settings, the extension downloads its language file once from screentotext.com, or, if that fails, from cdn.jsdelivr.net. Like any web server, these hosts see your IP address and which language file was requested. The request carries no cookies and no information about the page you are on or what you captured. The file is checked against a known fingerprint and kept on your device, so it is not downloaded again. If a download fails that check, the extension keeps a count of such failures on your device for troubleshooting; it is never sent anywhere.
No analytics, no accounts
Version 1 of the extension has no analytics, no tracking and no sign-in. Your settings (languages, line breaks, auto-copy) are stored by Chrome on your device.
